Best Self Improvement Ideas

Are you looking for the best self improvement ideas? They’re right there written down for us in books. The wisdom of the ages is bound up, just begging to be released into action.

Starting with the Bible, self help has been available widely since the invention of the the printing press.

Those of us who live in America, may tend to overlook the possibilities that exist for us to gain wisdom and understanding. As Solomon learned wisdom and understanding properly applied could lead to great wealth.

Solomon himself, one of the richest men in history, was asked by God in a dream to ask what he would for a gift. God was willing to give him what he asked for. Somehow Solomon had the wisdom to ask for Wisdom and Understanding and not riches.

“Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” -- Proverbs 4:7

God granted his wish and gave him wisdom and understanding. He then made him the richest man of his time. He also gave him the promise of long life if he would be true to the principles of the kingdom. I would like to say that Solomon was a perfect king and did all well, but he was a man. All men have their failings.

Once we begin studying self improvement ideas we realize that what’s necessary to be rich is information. Then, we must learn how to use that information correctly. Wisdom and understanding can lead to riches and long life, if correctly applied.

Napoleon Hill was able to write one of the greatest self improvement books of all time. It required him to make a decision similar to Solomon’s. Andrew Carnegie gave Napoleon Hill a challenge and an opportunity, at the same time. He was commissioned to write a geat success work, based on the most financially successful men in America.

Andrew Carnegie offered letters of introduction to the 500 most successful men in America, with one catch. Napoleon would write about them. He would gather up all of their self improvement ideas and techniques, but would have to pay his own expenses as he traveled.

Mr Carnegie had made up his mind. Unknown to him, Mr Hill, would only have exactly 60 seconds to decide if he would take the challenge. Fortunately he made a quick decision. He has written down for us some of the best self improvement ideas of the ages.

Think and grow rich is a book that should be in every entrepreneurs collection. I have a Free copy for you. Click here for your Free copy of Think and Grow Rich. Think and Grow rich’s self improvement ideas have been used by entrepreneurs across the globe to build fortunes. Here is a video of Napoleon Hill speaking of his association with Andrew Carnegie.

Another book that is a must read, and one I always recommend was written by David Schwartz. His book The Magic of Thinking Big, expanded my thinking. It is full of self improvement ideas and ways to expand your thinking. When I started reading self help books my life began to change for the better.

As a young man the books in the library were my escape from the boredom of public education. Likely my reading is to be thanked for being bent towards entrepreneurship and away from an employee mentality.

Every great man must have a great library to get his self improvement ideas from. Anyone just starting out, can afford to buy a few great books at library and used bookstore sales. There you may wade through mounds of trashy novels to find a gold nugget, but that’s the price of success.

Here are some of the best self development ideas and attributes I have been gathering in the last several years:

Attitude of Gratitude - We must be thankful and have an attitude of gratitude in everything that happens to us whether good or bad. We learn more from our failures than from our successes. We all have bad days, but we can overcome them. Read Overcoming Bad Days

Be Authentic - What makes us different, is what makes us special. Be yourself. See How to Be Yourself.

Believe - We must believe that we can be successful. This is having faith that all that we go through, is for our benefit. This faith is developed. It comes to us from the positive influences of our parents, teachers, coaches, authors, and leaders.

There are those who were not raised up with a caring, nurturing home life. For them belief and self esteem are a challenge. They may find life to be a challenge. Here is their challenge: To begin Building High Self Esteem

Change is Inevitable - Those nimble enough to roll with the punches and embrace change will persevere. See How to Change Your Thinking.

Decide to Be Happy - Life will never be perfect for anyone, but we can decide to be happy in all our circumstances. For more on this see What Makes People Happy.

Desire - Desire is something that cannot be taught. But it is a necessary ingredient for true success.

Discipline - Discipline is a key to taking control of ones life. Discipline is what sets those who win apart from those who do not.

Do It Now - Taking action and overcoming procrastination is a challenge for everyone. Those who take action are laying bricks for a foundation of success. Here’s my article on Just Do It.

“Action cures fear.” -- David J. Schwartz, author

Dreamers - Dreamers across the ages have been able to overcome failure and do the impossible. Dreamers have a vision that may not see. A vision communicated is inspiration.

“If you can dream it, you can do it.” -- Walt Disney

Education - Your education has only just begun, when you graduate from school. We must continue to study and learn as we progress in our businesses and careers.

Enthusiasm - It has been said that nothing great was ever accomplished without enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is contagious. It moves people like nothing else can. How to develop enthusiasm.

Ethics - Those who go the furthest in life are those who have proved they can be trusted. See our article Ethics in The Workplace.

Failure - Failure is the road one must travel down, on the way to the road of success. Those who overcome their failures will usually go on to be successful, just like these famous failures became successful. We all make mistakes but we can learn from them. We should all be blessed like these entrepreneurs who made famous mistakes.

Fear - Overcoming our Fears is One of the Best Self Improvement Ideas. Fear can hold us back from the much of the good in life. We can learn to overcome the fear of change. We can also Overcome the Fear of Public Speaking.

Giving - It is said that it is more blessed to give than to receive. We have all be given much. The least we can do is pass it on. I have an article on going the extra mile for success.

"You give before you get."-- Napoleon Hill

Guard Your Health - Without good health we have nothing. This concept is one that is best learned early in life. It was not my priority early on, but became one as I acquired wisdom from suffering health setbacks. See What is Cardiovascular Disease?

“Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live.” -- Jim Rohn, America’s Business Philosopher

Have Fun - What good is it to go through life with a frown all the time. Learn to have fun and experience the healing effects of laughter.

Leadership - Leadership is not just for an elite few. It is, for anyone who will pay the price; being a leader requires. See our article What Makes a Good leader?

Opportunity - Opportunity is everywhere if we’ll simply seize it.

Patience and Persistence - Patience and persistence are first cousins. Sometimes life asks us to wait.

Possibilities - Optimists believe in possibilities. They see the possible in the impossible. Awaken Your Possibilities.

Purpose - When a man has a purpose, a mission he is unstoppable. The world makes way for a man or woman on a mission.

“There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it.” -- Napoleon Hill

Reprogram Yourself - The human subconscious mind is like a computer hard drive. It remembers everything it has taken in our life. Both the good and the bad. We can affect our outcomes but programming in the good, the pure and the positive. See my article on Positive Self Talk. Reprogramming can be accelerated with this growing list of affirmations.

Self Improvement - Self improvement ideas begin with us. Before we can change our neighbor, or change our neighborhood, we must change ourselves. Striving for improvement puts the CANI principle into action daily.

Starting Over - Every man can start again. When all seems lost, perhaps the singing of a small bird is enough to re-awaken our passions. The greatest benefit of bankruptcy is it puts one back to a zero starting point again. See Starting Over in Life.

Thoughts are Things - We must direct our thoughts, just as we would guide an unruly child. See How to change Your thinking. We can change our thoughts.

While we’re thinking why not start thinking big?
