What is Prosperity or What is an Example of Prosperity?
What is prosperity? What is an Example of Prosperity? Is prosperity all about money, or is it something more? While almost everyone would like to be prosperous, most couldn’t really describe what prosperity would look like to them. Is prosperity simply a physical thing or does it consist of the physical, mental and spiritual? Prosperity is much more than being about money. Money is only a small part of being prosperous. Many of this world have fallen prey to the television, radio, and print advertisers. They show a prosperous person as being one who has their product as a possession. The wiser person knows that prosperity is not all about possessions. We can prosper physically, mentally and spiritually. Does a man or women require great wealth to be considered prosperous? In the world view, that seems to be the case, however if one were wealthy with a family who hated him, would he be prosperous? If he were rich, but ill and dying, would he still be considered prosperous? Would people point to him as an example of prosperity, or would they look at him with pity? If we lived our entire lives without want of money and died alone, bitter and without spiritual hope, would our life be considered as having been prosperous? Hopefully these questions will help you to re-examine the question of what is prosperity, or what is an example of prosperity? Here are what I consider the attributes of a prosperous person: Mental Prosperity Your mind is at peace. You have a purpose in life. You’re working towards your purpose and at peace with all men. You don’t harbor resentment towards anyone. You’re at peace with your mankind and with God. Fear isn’t bothering you. Spiritually Prosperous You have an active and living faith. You listen to and speak with God regularly. You are involved in service to others. You are ready to step, from this world, into the next as God sees fit. You see death as a homecoming or a graduation day. “My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.” -- Proverbs 3:1-2 Good Physical Health You have excellent health. You eat healthy, nutritious foods and get sufficient exercise. You have avoided most major illnesses and diseases. You see your aging as moving towards maturity. Sufficient Wealth You wouldn’t necessary be known as one of the wealthy elites of your town, but your income is always sufficient to meet your needs. You are active in the charities that are important to you, and able to share with others you desire to help. “The miracle is this—the more we share, the more we have.” -- Leonard Nimoy, Actor Friends and Family Because you are a friendly person who cares for others, you have many friends. You go into a friendship, not for what you can get, but to give back even more. You’re at peace with your family as well. We see an example of a prosperous man in Psalm 1:1-6. Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
